Welcome to Silvertree Communications! We believe that people have the right to quality, free hosting (MUD/Web) and services. Silvertree is ran completely out of pocket by Scott Schappell. I do not charge for people to have a shell account here, though I do ask that users (if able) provide some sort of donation.

• Name Services
  • Secondary NS (5 domains free)
    • Provide IP address of primary nameserver
    • Provide name of domain(s)
  • Primary DNS
    • Provide information needed for the zone file
    • One time set up fee of 50 USD per domain (no monthly)
    • Configure domain with registrar to use ns1.silvertree.org as primary nameserver.
• MUSH Server
  • As the Hosting account but with permission to run a single MUSH server and related processes.
  • Starting disk quota is 100MB instead of 50 (more quota can be granted if needed at no charge, subject to change)
  • User bears the responsbility for maintaining the MUSH (compiling, configuring, backup of the database, etc).
  • Server admins prefer to have a wizard account in order to shut down your game if necessary for system shutdowns/restarts (depends on MUSH version). If no wizard account is provided, Silvertree bears no responsibility for data loss or corruption in the event of a system shutdown, planned or unplanned.

Silvertree will comply fully with any request from any copyright holder or their duly appointed representatives.

Accessing Services

• SSL - Install Silvertree Root CA
• CRL - If you want the Certificate Revocation List, please e-mail archon@silvertree.org
• SMTP - We do not allow direct SMTP connections to the SMTP server. However, approved shell account users can set up a SSH tunnel.To be approved, users must have been using the system for 30 days with no incidents.
  Mail only users can send mail through the Squirrelmail interface.
• Webmail - https://www.silvertree.org/squirrelmail/
• Shell - Telnet access is not allowed. You must use SSH. Silvertree is an official PuTTY mirror so you can download a great free SSH client from our mirror site
• HTTP - FrontPage extensions are not currently supported on our Apache server, thus all publishing must be done via FTP, SFTP or SCP.
• MUSH Server - Administration and configuration is done via the shell.
